Is it worth insuring an eight year old dog

Never insured him, which I know some of you will wince at. Quotes now are steep and exclude a couple of things he has already had. Is there a point where you are better off putting the money in a savings account instead?

Not veterinary advice

Nobody here is your vet, and no vet reviews these posts. Community experience is genuinely useful for working out whether something is worth worrying about - but if your animal is unwell, in pain, or has stopped eating or drinking, call a vet rather than waiting for a reply.

We do the savings account thing for our older one. Works right up until the year you need four grand in one go.

Whatever you choose, read what happens at renewal. Some policies stop covering an ongoing condition after twelve months and that is the detail that catches people out with older dogs.

Lifetime cover is the phrase to look for. Costs more and it is the only kind that did anything for us.

Lifetime cover, twelve month limits, right. That gives me something to actually compare.

Also check the excess per condition per year rather than per claim. Big difference over time.
