Portion guide on the bag seems enormous

For a 12kg dog the bag says 260g a day. That looks like a lot compared to what he has been having. Are these numbers usually on the generous side?

They tend to assume a fairly active dog, yes. Use it as a starting point and adjust by what you see over a month.

Body condition beats the chart every time. If you can feel his ribs easily but not see them, you're about right.

Feels about right then, he's a sofa dog with a short walk. Keeping it where it is.
