My dog will only eat if I sit on the floor next to him

If I stand up he stops. If I leave the room he waits. I have eaten several meals sat on the kitchen lino now and my back is not enjoying it. How did this start and how do I end it.

Mine needs me in the room but not on the floor, so you can definitely negotiate the terms down a bit. I moved a chair closer and then slowly moved it back over a fortnight.

Ours eats fine alone but only if the radio is on. Dogs are just odd about dinner.
