He has started bringing me single socks

Not pairs. Never pairs. One sock, delivered with great ceremony, several times a day. He is very pleased with himself and I do not want to discourage it but I am running out of socks.

Retrievers gonna retrieve. Mine does slippers and once brought me a courgette.

Give him one designated sock that is officially his. Ours carries the same sad grey one around like a trophy and leaves the rest alone.
